Mamma Mia
musical London is accompanied by ABBA classics all through its two hour thirty
minute run at the Novello Theatre. The show has been written by British
playwright Catherine Johnson and has songs composed by Benny Andersson and
Björn Ulvaeus, the former members of the ABBA band. The show’s title has been
picked up from the 1975 chart-topping number of the band “Mamma Mia”.

The musical made
its West End premier at the Prince Edward Theatre on 6th April 1999
and was transferred to the Prince of Wales Theatre on 6th June 2004.
It was moved from here to its present home the Novello Theatre London in
September 2012. A Phyllida Lloyd directorial, the initial cast of the musical
featured Siobhan McCarthy, Lisa Stokke and Hilton McRae.
The Mamma Mia musical London takes audiences to the pristine islands of Greece. Sophie while
sending out the cards for her wedding comes across one of her mother’s old
memoirs that tell her about three men, one among them is her real father. An
excited Sophie sends invitation to all three of them without giving the
slightest hint to her mother Donna.
Her plans to
solve the mystery fail, but the trio agrees to share one third of being the
father
of the girl. While the hilarious story runs at the forefronts, ABBA
classics that accompany them include Does Your Mother Know?, Dancing Queen,
Super Trouper and Take A Chance On Me.

An immensely
popular musical, the Novello Theatre is the current London home to Mamma Mia.
Designed by W.G.R. Sprague, the house is a Grade II listed theatre venue that
can accommodate 1,105 audiences at a time. After undergoing numerous name
changes, it was finally named in 2004 after Ivor Novello. The multi-talented
Novello resided in one of the flats above the venue from 1913 to his death in
1951.
